Question For The Viewing Public
Hello Viewing Public,
I've received a lot of feedback on this NICU series, with many people asking me to throw in more facts about the circumstances surrounding Crusher's birth and to share some of the realities of his 26 day hospital stay in between my silly little jokes.
Between my year long battle with infertility, miscarriage, prematurity, magic cure to infertility, unplanned pregnancy and Irish twins, I'm sure there's an actual story in there somewhere. Damn it, Internets, are you going to make me go in there and find it?!
So I need your feedback, people savvy enough to use the comments section (and people who aren't, you know who you are...Mom).
Do you want me to continue with just the satirical version of this story, or do you want the actual story thrown in there as well?
Thanks!
Sheri

I think this is your story. You get to tell it any way you want. I'll sit by with my bag of bon bons watching soaps (cause this is what I do all day according to hubby) or popcorn and wait for the lastest installment of the telenovela "NICU."

I would love the actual story, as well... but something tells me that you will make even that story have its light moments.
You know, if no none makes you put your drink down.

I've been reading you for well over a month now. I am enjoying your satire and those infrequent lapses into RL.
Being a "childless" mother, I find your insight and satire to be right on track, you write this story how you want.
Thanks

Bring it on Sheri, you rock! I want it all! Whatever you'd like to share, I'm reading! You're awesome! Julie

Yea, whatever. I'm reading. I like the satire. I know you don't like LONG posts (grin), but I'll read short ones, long ones, fat ones, skinny ones, even ones with chicken pox.
But you HAVE to explain the Irish Twins thing.

I really enjoy the satirical story but would like the other harrowing detailed story, too, I think. Maybe you could write them as seperate stories?
Reply to this
I would like to know the Dateline version too. You know, "The Story Behind the Story" and all of that.
Reply to this
I like both, so whatever works for you!
(I have Irish twins too. It's fun being trashy, isn't it? I always have this urge to bring my boys to the grocery store with bare feet and curlers in my hair.)

I prefer the satire. There's enough reality out there as it is, that's not what I come here for.

I would love the real full story. I am also enjoying the funny version. Amazing Trips has the full story about her three in the NICU, it is very long but you can read it over several days.

I'd love to hear the real story as long as you keep telling the satirical one too. I vote both.

My opinion? I love these posts. Like love them the way I love me a dozen hot donuts from Krispy Kreme.
But from the sounds of it, you've got three months worth of posts between the satirical ones and the story behind the story. I say milk this for you all you can, sistah! You have a captive audience, give the people what they want! Daily posts!
Because I speak for the people, and all...

Reality? Acckkk! Do we have to go there? I like the humor-filled version - - oh, what the hey, tell us the real thing sometime - that's my vote

Thanks for the comment
Of course, I would love to hear the nitty gritty, but just because I've lived through it, too, and am interested in comparing preemie stories in general.
Loving the funny version. Will keep reading whatever the outcome.
Cheers!

I HATE it when the people of the internets make us question what we do and then leave us paralyzed and unable to function. (Go on, ask me how I know! No, better, don't.) Let them get their info off a website somewhere and get their hands off my daily laughs, please.
OK. That sounded very cranky. But seriously, you can get info anywhere - you can't get great funny writing everywhere, right?

I'm new to your blog - but would love to know the story behind the story, too

What Catwoman said.
(I'm new here so I'll wait a while before having my own opinion!)

I say, do what ya want! Having dealt with the NICU for a full term baby, I feel your pain, and LOVE the satire. But that's just me!
Reply to this
I'll have both please.
Or whatever you decide.

I think you are hilarious. I vote for both stories, too, but I have a feeling you won't be able to resist telling the whole story without a good shot of humor.

I would like to read the actual events but, whatever you do, please don't stop the satire.

I'm with madmad - amusing is more important than informative - but if you can do both, then that's the best. You should probably either write all the facts down, edit heavily, and put in the jokes or write the funny stuff and give a little more background for it just to flesh it out a bit. I think I tend to go for the latter approach. Stick with your style, but don't be scared to use a few more words. You're like me, I think - you dread to be boring even for a sentence or two. Garrison Keillor is good to listen to to see how one can be longer-winded and still funny - it is a very tricky thing to do.
Sorry for lengthy comment, but I think about this all the time.

You do whatever you're comfortable with. I enjoy everything you write.

Tell it how you want to. Or do it both ways.
Detroit...Royal Oak, Pleasant Ridge, & Clarkston as an adult. With my family as a kid: Lake Orion, Troy, and Auburn Hill.
Also did a looooong stint in East Lansing as I gathered my various degrees which sit unused but suck my finances dry due to crazy student loans.
Are you from Detroit?

I am very much enjoying the story you are doing. BUT it's always nice to know a little bit more about the situation. Whatever you prefer I think is what you should do...if you feel comfortable talking about it then do..if not don't..didn't know it was so simple did ya?!

I think you should tell it the way you want to. I've been enjoying it so far.

It's your story. Tell us however you want. We'll love it regardless.

Just as long as you post something every single day i'm in hog heaven.

I'm newish too but I'm thinking I'd like it both ways, IF you know what I mean.
Thanks for stopping by my blog!

I, too, am happy with however you choose to write your story, but your funny is some of the best funny out there!

I'd love to hear more of the real NICU experience as well. I've lived through it, and it never gets old hearing other NICU parents stories. Of course, I love your humor as well, don't stop that either!

1) you are the momma = person in charge of information and 2) you are the blogger = person in charge of information distribution. You are the queen of all regarding your little one and what and how you want to share.

It is really doesnt matter to me, I would read it anyways.

Hunny, I am addicted to your blog, the way you write and what you write....I have said this before, you rock! Now compliments having been given, I will also say that honestly whatever you decide to write about and whatever the subject is, I will find it damn fine reading, therefor, I'd say write it in whatever way makes you happiest......and point them towards me if anyone gives you grief...Scottish lassie in protective-over-blogging-friend mode....grrrrrr.

I love your satire because you're very good at it but like others I will read it anyway. My best friend worked in NICU for over 20 years and it can be a heartbreaking experience. I'm glad yours has a happy ending.

However you want to dish it out, I'll read it. Because I's likes your blog and will read it all--the serious and the satirical.

Hi,
I'd love to hear all that you feel comfortable sharing. I do enjoy your entertaining writing.
Take care and try to stay cool over there.

Ya know...you can tell the story however you'd like. But I'm here to assure you that if you're as schizophrenic as I am, funny one day and serious (or more serious) the next, your readers won't desert you. I think it gives your blog dimension - and sounds like something you might want to get off your chest anyway.

I'd love to hear it! With or without the jokes, I think it's sure to be inspiring

I found my way here from Deb3girls, and the comment you left on my blog.
Since being a new reader, first I just wanted to say I'm enjoying your story, and feel you should write the way you like. It's not about us, it's about you and your family!
I'll be back to read it what ever you decide.

Thanks for your comment on my blog - I'm a fairly new blogger too, so felt the same way about the list of advice when I first saw it too.
I love reading your story, however you want to tell it...
Reply to this
I think that some of both would be the way.. if there was no satire it would not be you dear!!

First and foremost, you should write what you like.
I love what you've been writing because it's universal and makes looking back on my babies' NICU days easier by pointing out the bits of humor and irony. From an entirely self-serving point of view, I would like to see more along exactly the same lines. In fact I think this site should be recommended to every NICU mom at her baby's one-year checkup. Looking back and laughing makes it so much easier to move forward.

It depends on how comfortable you are with truly opening up.

I like the way you are telling the story. Being a parent of a baby who was in the NICU I know how serious it is in there and appreciate your take on it.
I think you will get around to telling us the facts the way your are telling it anyway.
Totally up to you! I will read no matter what!

I don't think we're neighbors (I'm on the East Coast) but I wish we were! You're hilarious!!

As a new comer, I would love to hear. But, something tells me I would love to hear anything you have to say at this point. I am just catching up and can already tell, your stories and what you have to write and how you write it will keep me enthralled!

I enjoy your writing, so don't change a thing, be you, tell your story ... we will all be here waiting

Well, ummm... read this and tell me if I would like to have the real story! I'm one for the NICU/preemie details, as you can tell.

I love it however you dish it out, and I love the irreverence, too, because that is the only way to get through it, I remember that. I should have tried pumpkin cheesecake!

Actual story, please. I like this, too, but would LOVE to know the real story.

Keep it just like it is, I love it!! I have the EXACT same situation as you, 2 years infertility, m/c, IVF, premature birth (30wks, 5 wks in NICU) and then when he was 4 mos old I found out I was pg AGAIN! With my second c/s I got my tubes tied, 2 in 2years is enough for me.
You have excellent writing skills and you make such a difficult time easier to digest. I know first hand how truly difficult it is and it is such a pleasure to read someone else's take and throw in some levity and humor. Please, keep it just like it is!!
thanks
Nicole
